Animal Haven's shelter in Flushing, Queens is the nerve center of all our programs. The shelter generally houses 25 dogs and 200 cats, most of whom are available for adoption. Our special needs cats and dogs will be given lifetime care either at the shelter or at our Sanctuary and Rehabilitation center in "upstate" Delaware County. Our supports the long term care of our Special Needs animals.

Animal Haven has occupied its current building (shown right) since 1978. The Flushing Shelter is the heart and soul of Animal Haven. It is the location where all Animal Haven's cats and dogs are taken in, treated for medical conditions, or simply vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered so that they are ready for adoption.

Although the shelter building dates to the turn of the century, the sheltering concepts are modern. The dogs are housed in rooms rather than cages, and the cats occupy 8 rooms with many windows in a virtually cage free condition.

Animals can be seen at the shelter during our adoption hours, there is no need for an appointment, but if you are seeking a particular breed please call the shelter ahead of time. Animal Haven Flushing Shelter also manages the Animal Haven Mobile Adoption Van, which visits locations throughout the tri-state area every weekend.

If you are interested in volunteering at any of our locations, please start by visiting our Volunteers Needed page.

If you are interested in making a contribution please call (718) 886-3683, or use our online secure donation form. You may also contact_us to request more information.
