Every animal in our shelter is available for adoption, but a some of the cats and dogs in Animal Haven's care have special needs and need to be adopted into special homes. You can get to know these special animals reading their stories below. Until we can find the right home for them, you can sponsor one of these cats or dogs by making a monetary donation of $10 a month or $100 a year. By committing to your sponsor pet annual or monthly support you assure they have a fun, warm, and loving place to live while they wait for their forever home. In return for your gift of less than 33 cents a day, you get photos and updates about your cat or dog. You are welcome to send special gifts or visit your sponsored pet. Many of the special needs dogs reside at Animal Haven Acres - Animal Haven's sanctuary and rehabilitation center in upstate New York - where they spend most of their time outdoors, instead of in a cage. Our special needs cats roam free in one of our cat rooms. If you want to sponsor one of these "special needs" animals, please choose your animal and click Sponsor Me.

Please note: Welcome letters can sometimes take up to two to three weeks to arrive and all our sponsor pets have multiple sponsors to help cover the yearly costs of their care.

My name is Uno, aptly named because I have one eye. I live in the Main cattery here at Animal Haven with a bunch of my friends. I am a little nervous around people, so most likely I will be spending my years here at AH. For that reason I sure could use a sponsor so that my stay will continue to be a comfortable one!

They call me Pica. I am friends with Jazzy, Garfield and the rest of the gang here in the room for leukemia cats. I am very affectionate and loving. I would make a great pet (if you have leukemia cats now, or no other cats of course). If I can't get adopted I really need a sponsor! Click on the button to the right to sign up!

Jazzy's the name. I am a Pastel colored Tortoiseshell cat. I am super friendly; I love to be rubbed and petted by all the lovely humans who come visit the FELV+ room. Come by and meet me any time!

Hi there, I'm Trista. I am a beautiful Collie mix who was born around July 2001. If you are interested in adopting me, I require a very special single guardian and I am not especially fond of cats. In the meantime, won't your sponsor me?

Hello, my name is Freckles. I was also rescued from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. As it so happens, I am positive for feline leukemia and FIV. I now live in the leukemia room with the other leukemia positive kitties. I would love to be adopted, but in the meantime, won't you sponsor me?

This is Priscilla, a beautiful one-year-old female FeLV+ kitty. She is a little shy but would do well in a house with other leukemia cats or by herself.

My name is Anastasia, but my friends sometimes call me Annie. I'm a female shepherd mix (birthdate: 11/97) who was abandoned at Animal Haven as a small puppy. I love to run and play and am very active, lively and friendly, but would be better in a house without other animals. I'm told other dogs have homes of their own and get to go outside and play and run and get lots of exercise. Won't you please give me the chance for the good life?

How do you do. I'm Christy. I'm 3 years old and have mild cerebellar hypoplasia. That a mouthful for a little cat like me! It means my mom had distemper when she was pregnant which caused me to have some balance problems. But come see how well I get around the handicap room at Animal Haven. I'm also a bit shy and sometimes forget how much I like to be petted. Please come remind me.
My name is Brit. As you can see, I'm a very playful 5-year-old shepherd mix. I am kind of shy though, as some girls can be, so I might be a little afraid if I don't know you too well. But, I'm coming out of my shell day by day here at Animal Haven Acres.

Hi, I'm T.J. I've been told that I'm quite a handsome fellow. In fact, my face graces the shelter's sweatshirts - quite an honor - so it must be true. Come visit me and see for yourself.

Hi, I'm Jake. I'm living here at Animal Haven Acres because I tend to be a little possessive - especially with food and toys and can get a bit grumpy if I don't get my way - don't we all! But, I'm going through training and hope to one day share a home with my new family.

Those gorgeous green eyes looking at you from within a cat tree are probably mine - Lil' Devil. I'm very timid, but somedays I do venture out and let everyone see how pretty I am.

My name is Leo. I am crazy "like a fox". I LOVE to play, and am usually up to quite a bit of mischief. I have been told I have a GREAT sense of humor. I was found running the streets of Jamaica as a puppy in 1998, and am happy to be safe and sound and loved at Animal Haven Acres.
Howdy, I'm Petey. I'm a dalmation mix (birthdate: 10/97) and look like a larger version of the "Our Gang" dog. I'm strong, active and very affectionate and very proud to have received a K9 Good Citizen Award for passing this training program. I would be perfect to run and play ball with in the park, and if you love lots of doggy "kisses," I'm your kind of guy. I would make a lively, fun dog for someone with an active lifestyle, but I need to be the one and only pet.

I'm Nellie. I look a little funny when you first meet me because I have two different colored eyes. But that just adds to my charm, don't you think. I'm a 3 1/2-year-old Rottweiller/Australian Shepherd mix who, along with my other friends at Animal Haven Acres, is learning the skills I need to live in a home of my very own.
